In May, retiresavvy will take a look at the life of ex-pat retirees and travel in retirement, and we’d love your help.
We’ll be looking at financial and other issues that you may need to consider when looking at a retirement abroad and how escaping to the sun could be the best years of your life.
Among other things, we’ll look at which countries may be best for retirement and what they offer, as well as tips on how to settle in to life as an ex-pat with insights from those living the dream.
We’ll examine the rise of the ‘grey gap year’ as increasing numbers of retirees jet off for extended periods of time to see the world, showing that travelling the world from a backpack need not be the preserve of students.
We’ll also investigate how pre-existing medical conditions can really impact being able to get travel insurance, what to look out for when taking out a policy – and what you can do to get the best premiums.
But we want to know:
- Are you looking to retire aboard? What are you looking for? What’s most important to you?
- Are you aware of the financial issues around retiring abroad? Pension planning might be the last thing on your mind when looking forward to the sun, but do you know what to look for and what risks and pitfalls to avoid?
- If you’re enjoying life as an ex-pat retiree, what advice would you give to others considering leaving the UK? What have you learned – and what might you do differently?
